Honouring the Memory of Harper

In a heartfelt recognition of community spirit and remembrance, April’s Majesticare Grant has been awarded to Bethany Fuller from Oaktree Court Care Home. Bethany’s application, submitted for Sampford Arundel Primary School, seeks to honour the memory of a beloved student, Harper Pumfrey, who recently lost her battle with an aggressive brain tumour.

The Majesticare Grant Scheme is designed to offer assistance to charitable causes and community projects close to the hearts of our team members, embodies our ethos of giving back and making a positive impact.

A Community United in Support

Bethany Fuller spoke on behalf of the entire school community, expressing the profound impact Harper had on everyone around her. “The whole school community, and especially a student, Harper, has been through a really tough six months,” she shared. Harper Pumfrey, a bright and vibrant Year 5 student, was diagnosed in August 2023 with Childhood Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a highly aggressive and inoperable brain tumour.

Harper’s Brave Journey

Upon her diagnosis, Harper and her family were overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from friends, family, and even strangers. This collective effort raised an incredible amount of money, enabling Harper to receive pioneering specialist care in Spain and Germany. These treatments, while unable to cure her, granted Harper an additional four precious months with her loved ones. Tragically, Harper passed away in February 2024, leaving a void in the hearts of all who knew her.

Creating a Space for Memories

To honour Harper’s memory and provide a space for reflection, the Majesticare Grant will be used to create a memory garden at Sampford Arundel Primary School. The funds may be used to install a memory bench, offering a serene spot for students to sit and cherish their memories of Harper. This initiative aims to provide a peaceful sanctuary where the school community can come together, remember Harper’s spirit, and find solace in their shared memories.

A Meaningful Decision

The decision to award the grant to Oaktree Court and Sampford Arundel Primary School was made by Hannah Montgomery, the Marketing, Sustainability, and Care Lead for Grace Cares. Reflecting on the values upheld by Majesticare, Hannah expressed her support for the project.

“The Majesticare grant will help the school to create a wonderful memory garden for Harper, where students and others can use the space to remember, reflect, and make happy memories,” she noted.

A Lasting Legacy

Harper Pumfrey’s legacy will live on through the memory garden or bench, serving as a testament to the love and support she received from her community. This space will not only honour Harper’s memory but also provide a place for students to find comfort and inspiration in the face of their own challenges. The creation of this garden and bench symbolises the enduring strength of community, compassion, and the impact of one remarkable young girl who touched so many lives.
