A Heartfelt Tribute to Macmillan Cancer Support
At Majesticare, we’re brimming with pride and joy as we share the incredible story of one of our beloved residents, Jean — affectionately known as Happy — from Cavendish Park Care Home. Recently, Happy’s inspiring journey was featured on BBC Hereford & Worcester Radio, and we couldn’t be more thrilled!
Happy, at the impressive age of 94, participated in a 2.5k sponsored walk for Macmillan Cancer Support, in Evesham’s Park Run. This event was particularly significant for Happy, as her niece, Karen, is a Macmillan Nurse. The cause resonated deeply with her, turning her walk into a heartfelt tribute to both her family and the broader community affected by cancer.
Overcoming Challenges
Happy’s journey to this event is nothing short of extraordinary. After a mini stroke left her unable to walk, she found a new home at Cavendish Park Care Home. This sponsored walk was not only a personal milestone but also a symbol of Happy’s resilience and unyielding commitment to special causes.
A Community Effort
On the day of the park run, Happy was accompanied by our dedicated Activities Lead, Ellie, and Community Lead, Kim. They took turns guiding her around the park, ensuring she had the support she needed. The local community came out in full force to cheer Happy on, creating an atmosphere of encouragement and celebration. A particularly moving moment occurred when Happy chose to walk the final stretch of the lap independently, using her walking stick. The cheers and applause from the crowd as she crossed the finish line were a testament to her strength and the community’s support.
Happy’s Radio Segment
Happy featured not once but twice last week on BBC Hereford and Worcester with radio host Tammy Gooding. Listen to the segment below.
She was even featured in a BBC News Article. Click here to read.
Macmillan Coffee Morning
To further support Happy’s fundraising efforts, Cavendish Park hosted a Macmillan Coffee Morning a few days after her sponsored walk. This event was a wonderful display of community spirit, with local residents and even local politican Nigel Huddleston, coming together to show their support. The coffee morning was a resounding success, and thanks to the generosity of those involved, Happy’s fundraising page has raised an impressive £842!
A place to call home
