At Majesticare, we are committed to providing exceptional care and ensuring the utmost safety and wellbeing of our residents. This commitment drives our passion for being at the forefront of innovative initiatives that shape the future of care home practices. Today, we are thrilled to share our involvement in the ground breaking Vivaldi Social Care Project.
Quote from Sue Buxton, Commercial and Compliance Manager at Majesticare:
“The Vivaldi Social Care Project is a ground-breaking initiative that will empower care homes across the UK to detect infections promptly, prevent closures, and maintain consistent communication between residents and their loved ones. I am delighted that numerous care homes have joined this vital research endeavour. This project holds immense significance not only for the immediate safety of our care home residents but also for safeguarding their well-being in the years to come.”
Listen to narrator and actor, Stephen Fry, explain exactly what the Vivaldi Social Care Project is below:
The Vivaldi Project
This pioneering national research endeavour, funded by the government and spearheaded by the Outstanding Society, Care England, and University College London, is a 12-month pilot study that aims to revolutionise infection prevention and control within care home settings.
At its core, the Vivaldi Project harnesses the power of routinely collected data from the NHS and public health agencies to meticulously measure the prevalence of common infections among care home residents. By anonymising this vital information, the project paves the way for invaluable research opportunities that could transform the landscape of care home practices.
Common infections such as influenza, urinary tract infections, diarrhoea, and vomiting pose significant threats to the health and well-being of older adults residing in care homes. These illnesses can lead to severe complications, hospitalisations, and disrupt the daily lives of residents. The COVID-19 pandemic served as a reminder of how rapidly outbreaks can spread, resulting in care home closures and separating residents from their loved ones.
A Multifaceted Approach
Through its comprehensive approach, the Vivaldi study seeks to mitigate the impact of infections and outbreaks in care homes on multiple fronts:
Measurement and Data Collection: By tracking and analysing infection rates, consequences, and outbreak numbers, the project aims to provide a understanding of the challenges faced by care homes.
Research and Innovation: Armed with this invaluable data, researchers can delve into developing new and improved strategies for infection prevention, exploring the effectiveness of vaccines and antibiotics. This can optimise protocols to safeguard residents and staff.
Ethical Considerations and Opt-Out Process
The Vivaldi Social Care Project has undergone rigorous ethical review and has received approval from the Health Research Authority, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, and the Confidentiality Advisory Group. This guarantees that the research adheres to the highest ethical standards and prioritises the protection of patients’ interests.
To ensure a representative and robust research sample, the project operates on an opt-out basis. This approach acknowledges that many care home residents may lack the capacity to provide consent, ensuring their inclusion in this ground breaking research is not hindered.
A Commitment to Excellence
At Majesticare, we are proud to be part of this vital research initiative that aligns seamlessly with our core values of creating outstanding places where people love to live and work. By contributing to the Vivaldi Social Care Project, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the health, safety, and well-being of our residents.
