Meet the Team

I have worked for Majesticare on & off since 2014 & have had the privilege of managing two care homes (Oaktree Court & now Oak Lodge) during that time.

One of the things that you will get to know about me is that I like to have fun & in turn, like others to have fun too. It’s an ethos that I hold true at home as well as at work (And it’s one of our core values, which is a handy coincidence).

I feel really privileged to be working in this role & I think to be in this position & to support the team, you really need to be a good person, with a good heart & have the the ability to put the care of the residents above everything else. Making a difference every day is so important, that’s why I make time to see everyone each day, even if only for a few minutes. Sometimes it’s a difficult journey, but it’s totally worth it as everyone is eventually able to come together as one big happy family.

I love spending time with my family. I’m married to Karen, and have two teenage children called Harry and Jasmine, who keep me on the straight and narrow. I also really love going for long walks over Dartmoor with my dog Barney, he’s a lovely big black Labrador. We also have a very lazy cat called Alan, and two leopard tortoises called Pedro and Primrose.

I think I may have mentioned earlier that I like to have fun, well I also have a bit of an adventurous side… I’m a qualified open water scuba diver, have run the London Marathon twice, performed on stage in a number of award winning plays and musicals, written and directed an award winning panto, skydived from 30,000 feet, bungee jumped, and have the most spectacular/dreadful array of colourful shirts which I wear to work to make people smile – and that’s all before breakfast.

I am really looking forward making our home the best possible place to live, work & spend time with friends.

Message from the Manager

Andy says his ethos is fairly straightforward, to make every resident and their loved ones feel they are receiving the best possible care, and couldn’t live anywhere better. This may sound quite a challenge, but it’s one Andy accepts with gusto! “It’s always about good communication and teamwork”, says Andy, “making sure every member of staff knows the residents really well, so everyone feels they are amongst friends. It’s also really important that the staff how much they are valued, both by the home management team, their colleagues and the company as a whole”. Andy feels that getting the views of the residents is invaluable, and tries to see every resident, every day, so he knows everyone is happy and comfortable. He is always delighted to speak to family members, especially if they have any ideas on how to improve the residents’ lives in any way. “It’s a team effort, and the families and friends know them really well, so they tend to give us ideas which we wouldn’t have otherwise thought of”. – Andy Kirby, Oak Lodge Manager.
