I trained at Charing Cross hospital, London in the early 80s before transferring to the Royal Surrey County at Guildford. I was a night sister there, before I decided to have a change of direction and work in an intensive care unit. When my son was born, I moved into the operating theatres, where I was the face that everyone woke up to after their operation.

My move into the care home environment began after a period of working in an office for BUPA, when I realised how much I missed hands-on nursing. A friend invited me to come along to her nursing home and I never really looked back. I became a manager in a nursing home in Charmouth when Majesticare invited me to run Oak Lodge. Four years later, I’m still loving it!
